Radiosity and Ray tracing

These are the two most popular methods of calculating realistic images:

  • Radiosity simulates the diffuse propagation of light starting at the light sources. This means that the light that hits an object or surface will diffuse and spread smoothly to look softly shaded and it carries different coluors that it found from the source.
  • Ray tracing follows all rays from the eye of the viewer back to the light sources. This is more of a sharp look. It follows the light that bounces of an object back to the source so as you can imagine the shading will be a lot more striaght black and white areas rather than flowing the shades through.
